sjspr.radio Founder | Youth Radio/Media Activist | Educator

Pilar Álamo is a Fine Arts graduate of the State University of New York at Purchase and has been a Youth Radio/Media Activist since 1998 when she co-founded a low-power community youth radio program, Kids Discover Radio WKDR 88.7FM in East Harlem, New York City.

A Saint John's School faculty member since January of 2010, she tailors and implements a media literacy component into her teaching practices that enables students to refine their listening and critical thinking skills. 

In her new role as Radio and Creative Media Coordinator, Ms. Álamo leads this school wide media production and literacy initiative that aligns with all of the 21st Century Learning Competency tenets and provides a unique space where any and all members of our diverse school community can congeal to collaborate with one another.
Journalist | Independent Producer | Radio & Media Consultant

Ezequiel Rodríguez Andino is a Puerto Rican jounalist and radio producer. He became an independent producer for Radio Universidad de Puerto Rico in 2000 where he created a produced the weekly live program, Frecuencias Alternas

He later served as their Production Coordinator (2002-2008) and its Technical Operatioins Coordinator (2008-2014) creating and producing a myriad of programs for the station.

Ezequiel is a Producer for the innovative WNYC's and Futuro Studios podcast about the Puerto Rican experience called La Brega, hailed as "Best Podcasts of 2021" by The New Yorker and The New York Times.

We are eternally indebted to him for the operational foundations that catapulted sjspr.radio into existence.
A/V and Events Producer | TV Production Educator | Sound Editor 
Wilfred J. Lugo holds a Master’s Degree in Education with certifications in Theater and Dance from la Universidad del Turabo en Gurabo. 
Currently a freelance audio-visual and events producer, Wilfred works in both the media and theatrical performance industries. He is no stranger to the educational environment of schools. For 16 years he taught audio-visual and television production at the Dr. Juan José Osuna Radio and Television Production Specialized High School for the Department of Education in Puerto Rico.
  
Wifred is our designated MVP sound editing consultant. An infallible pinch hitter, his consistent delivery of top quality first mixes has enabled the VOICES of SJS podcast to become one of our primary series.
IT Director | Instructional and Information Technology Educator

Tere Somoza, our Information Technology (IT) Director, has a B.S. degree in Psychology from the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Professionally she worked as a technology support and instructional consultant and later as Education Regional Account Manager for Latin America with the Lotus Development Corporation for 17 years. 

As an educator she taught Computer Science at Colegio Marista de Guaynabo and later joined Saint John's School as Educational Technology Coordinator in 2014. 

From the very beginning, Tere and the SJS IT Team have provided the technological assistance and support that has enabled sjspr.radio to thrive and deliver its quality media content.
Editor | Producer | Media Consultant & Sound Artist
 
Sixto I. Ortiz has a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón.
 
He has worked in Bonita Radio, WKVM 810 AM and Oro 92.5 FM as a Master Control Operator and Radio Producer. He has helped produce radio programs such as Fuego Cruzado, Canciones Inolvidables, Alerta Legal, Auto Control among others. An avid podcaster himself, he is an adjunct sound production professor at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón and has his own production company that helps develop emergent productions. 
 
Sixto currently serves as Radio & Media Production Manager for sjspr.radio and teaches a Sound Production for Media class in the Secondary Division.  
 
Radio Production Educator | Script Writer| Producer

Salvador Méndez Resto has a master’s degree in Communications and Script Writing from the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, and B.A. Degrees in both Communications Arts and Theater Education from the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. 

He currently works as Radio Sound Production and Locution professor at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón and the Dr. Juan José Osuna Radio and Televisión Production Specialized High School for the Department of Education in Puerto Rico.

Salvador has been instrumental as a liaison to local sound production professionals and has developed a joint Radio Theater Project with Saint John’s School celebrating 100 years of Radio in Puerto Rico together with our local public WIPR Radio/TV broadcasting station.
Audio Engineer | A/V Specialist | Stage Manager
Francisco Pérez holds a dual major BA Degree in Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice with completed master’s degree courses in Counseling and Rehabilitation from the University of Puerto Rico. 
With an Audio Engineering and Musical Production certification from the Liceo de Arte & Tecnología, Francisco is Saint John’s School audio-visual guru in charge of managing and running the bulk of all school activities, events, and livestream video productions.  
Since the very first studio equipment order for sjspr.radio, Francisco graced our team with his extensive audio production expertise and invaluable technical assistance.
Artist | Filmmaker | Community Organizer | Sound Editor
José Luis “Chema” Baerga Aguirre is a multifaceted, multi-talented zenith who studied painting at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico. As a staunch and passionate community activist, he continually leads and fosters youth art and media projects.
His community-based documentary film credits include Hasta el topeLas GladiolasVilla Esperanza Existe, and fiction feature, Los Delfines del Parking. His latest work as a director, El Poder del Pueblo, documents the struggle of regional southern communities against two of the most contaminating power facilities in Puerto Rico, the thermoelectric complex in Aguirre, Salinas, and the AES coal-fired power plant in Guayama.

Saint John’s School

Saint John’s School is a non-profit, college preparatory, nonsectarian, coeducational day school founded in 1915. The school, located in a residential area of Condado, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has an enrollment of over 800 students from pre pre-kinder to grade twelve. Instruction is mostly in English with the exception of language courses.
