José Luis “Chema” Baerga Aguirre is a multifaceted, multi-talented zenith who studied painting at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico. As a staunch and passionate community activist, he continually leads and fosters youth art and media projects.
His community-based documentary film credits include Hasta el tope, Las Gladiolas, Villa Esperanza Existe, and fiction feature, Los Delfines del Parking. His latest work as a director, El Poder del Pueblo, documents the struggle of regional southern communities against two of the most contaminating power facilities in Puerto Rico, the thermoelectric complex in Aguirre, Salinas, and the AES coal-fired power plant in Guayama.
