History Came to Life for Latin American History Students

History came to life for our 7th-grade Latin American History students during a dynamic visit from Dr. Norman Aponte—professor at Universidad del Sagrado Corazón and lecturer with Santillana Puerto Rico—for an insightful discussion on key historical influencers in Latin America.
Dr. Aponte shed light on often-underrepresented figures in history—including influential women and the enslaved Africans brought to the Americas during colonization. Students then put their historical knowledge to the test in a buzzer-style quiz simulating a History Bowl competition. Their enthusiasm and sharp thinking left Dr. Aponte impressed!

Thanks to Santillana for making this collaboration with our Social Studies Department possible and for their commitment to expanding educational opportunities and fostering dynamic learning experiences.

At Saint John’s School, history isn’t just studied—it’s discussed, challenged, and brought to life by future thinkers.
